Dark, overcast
Raining solidly
The wall of water
Falling in a steady stream
Not even a tattoo
On the roof
One incessant downpour
Penetrating our thoughts
Our emotions
Mesmerising us
Commanding our attention
Icy cold draughts
Insinuating themselves
Through any available crack
The paving stones
Drenched with rivulets
The earth dark
And saturated
The trees grey and stalwart
Black clouds overhead
And impenetrable mists
Nothing to alter
The heavy, numbing beat
And enchanted silence
Would follow eventually

Retired Adelaide based professional. Lived here most of my life. I have been a teacher of French, English and German since 1974 and value the capacity of the classroom, wherever that might be, to write on the lives of others.
