Are girls wired not to win?

Are girls wired not to win? : “For 85% of the women, other values came first: the ability to work with people they respect, to “be themselves” at work and to have flexible schedules.”

Absolutely fascinating article as to why women avoid top positions and cannot even be enticed to take or keep top jobs. Susan Pinker is looking at whether oxytocin is playing a role and maybe it is. I have seen many competent women give up or refuse top positions. Positions they are more than competent at managing. A lot of what is in the article rings true. I have also had some really bad female bosses…but two were absolutely outstanding. They weren’t being like men. They were women and very individual and hugely competent and innovative. Really challenging to work for because they were bright women with a marvellous sense of humour. So maybe women need to do it differently and ring the changes. Those two women bosses really sat people on their ear, shook things up, dealt easily with crisis and had fantastic people skills…and laughed a lot. They both found things hilarious and made us laugh at our silly ways at times. They kept us thinking and on the move.
