Concerns raised over lead levels in tank water: “Australians have been encouraged to embrace rainwater tanks to do their bit for the planet but a study shows the tanks could prove a danger to your health.”
Quite a few houses here run on rainwater only. Partly because it’s how some rural homes are ,partly because dry conditions have forced people to use their rainwater supplies for household use and partly because it’s a green, self sufficiency thing. We have been encouraged to get and use rainwater tanks because fo the drought. I have said before that it is important to know the condition of the water which is coming out of them. The study just underlines that. They have been advertising filters which you can use in conjunction with rainwater tanks. I am not sure if they would help. I think it is very important in these conditions to let people know how they can assess their water and how they can keep it contaminant free if it is to be used in the home. Most people would be using it for gardening but you wouldn’t want to be putting lead into the soil!!
